My first Caricature Connection post

So after Edward's arts lost the contract in Citywalk. I needed a place to finish off the summer. They wouldn't take me back at Universal (long story), but thank God I found Caricature Connection. It's a different style of doing caricatures than I'm accustomed to. I have to draw body situations. There is a book where the customer can choose what they want to be doing, but we don't have to copy it. We are free to interpret they situation in our own way. Here are some examples of a few situations from the book as interpreted by me in my first month at Caricature Connection.

 This one is from the first week or two. The girl's name is Zoe, which happens to be our dog's name so I drew our Zoey into the picture. I didn't tell the little girl that she has the same name as our doggy though.

This one is from my first day at Animal Kingdom. The girl wanted to be drawn as "Jungle Girl". Note the Tex Avery inspired lion.

This is the same pose and situation as the first one above (Roller Blading), but this girl was older so I caricatured the body too.

This last one is from today. Mermaids are one of the most requested and also one of my favorites to draw because it lets me have fun with the supporting animal cast. I prefer the mermaid on the rocks.

Update from Orlando

We've been in Orlando trying to work, but not having much success. At least we have been drawing more than we did in L.A.

Ellen in Airbrush. This one brought us a little bit extra business when they were filming a couple of episodes of the "Ellen Show" at citywalk.

My lovely wife... Believe it or not she requested that I push the exaggeration. It's one of the many wonderful things about being married to her.

Chef Novelli

Masha and I watch allot of reality contests and we watch allot of food shows. One of my favorites this past season was "Chef Academy". Chef Jean Christophe Novelli tries to make chefs out of his students. I guess he's pretty famous in the UK and he's got 2 michellin stars and he makes some cool looking food.

Taylor Swift

Still posting drawings from 2009. This one is of Taylor Swift. Done in ink, watercolor, and glitter. You can't really appreciate the glitter from this scan or color for that matter. I've yet to figure out how to make color scans look good.

3 Airbrush styles

I started in 2002 at Magic Mountain working with Fasen Arts. Fasen is known for bringing the graphite and airbrush style to retail caricatures. Airbrush is a great way of getting highly rendered caricatures in a speedy and versatile way. There are many different ways to use an airbrush so you can get a variety in styles. Recently I did a 3 different caricatures in 3 styles.

Dog- A more cartoony style ala Tom Richmond, but of course, not as skilled.



Jean Paul Belmondo - This one is a more rendered style. A little less graphite, a little more paint.



Joe Rogan - This one is definately more portraity. Almost not an caricature, but a crappy portrait haha, but still a variety of style possible with an airbrush.

Michael Jackson

It's about time.

My wife has been encouraging me to post these, and since It's my day off and I had a chance to scan them, today I decided to post these. Plus, it's been a while since I've put something up. They were done a couple of months ago in my sketchbook and were my attempts at coloring with artstixx.

First one is Macauley Culkin. There are so many ways to draw this guy, I'm definitely going to try him again.



Not a Harry Potter fan, but I had to try Emma Watson.



It was hard not to try to draw Denise Richards as Abbey Chase from "Dangergirl" Comics.

Live Caricatures 2004 part 1

To get this party started I'm posting some of my old live caricatures from Magic Mountain during March 2004. I'll put some new ones up soon, as soon as I charge my camera. Looking at these now, I can really see where I was deficient. Still, no rejections here. All these customers left happy.

My favorite game --- Caricatures

Here a few caricatures just to get the ball rolling on this blog. I must admit that I am a little disappointed with these samples. I don't find them funny or making any particular statement about the person. They are basically your run of the mill theme park samples. A little boring to me, but enough to get this started. By the way, I really don't like drawing park samples.
